Project Submission: Shelf

Thank you Mark for submitting your project to Reduce, REUSE, Recycle! Mark's project uses wood reclaimed from a shipping pallet to make a shelf.

The Project

Mark's Project Summary

"I used part of a nicer looking shipping pallet to make a shelf in the garage."

 Mark's Instructions:

  1. Screw a couple pallets together using a drill
  2. Attach brackets the same way
  3. Get someone to hold it up while you level it and attach it to the wall

Review

Using wood from shipping pallets to make shelves is an excellent idea and not just for the garage. With a bit more work, one could create a beautiful shelf for in the home. How to modify this project to fit your needs:
  • Paint or stain the wood
  • Use decorative brackets
  • Attach a small piece of the pallet wood to either end for built-in book ends
  • Add trim for a more finished look

  1. That's a good idea. Pallets are usually pretty strong as they're made with braces in the middle.

    1. Pallets are definitely strong as long as they are still in pretty good condition. They have to be for their primary use. That strength is a bonus when reusing them in projects such as this that may be under a heavy load.
